Well, this wrap-up is even easier than you would have expected. I wrote two weeks ago about how the Spicy Pickle switched their bread on me, and how I was never going back because of this. Their company’s COO called me and told me that he would call in the coming week to arrange a lunch meeting to talk more about their bread change. And, well, he never called last week. So that’s my update. No email, no phone call, no nothing. This essentially means that my boycott of the Spicy Pickle has entered its’ third week.

It’s probably been a few years since I’ve done a top 5 list, so here is a new one.

Top 5 sandwich shops (in or near Denver) to consider instead of the Spicy Pickle:

5. Gelman’s Market & Bistro - I had a great crabcake sandwich there a while back.
4. Mendelsohn’s Deli - A nice New York-style Deli downtown.
3. Rudi’s Deli, Winter Park - The Roasted Turkey Panini sandwich is stellar. I also enjoy the Turkey Avocado Melt.
2. Pat’s Philly Steaks and Subs - Get the PJ’s Gobbler.
1. Fat Jack’s Super Subs - a great shop with a silly name. I get the Don Juan usually.

  1. I happen to hate the spicy pickle myself.

Heidis Brooklyn Deli has a wonderful crabcake sandwich too. for phillies, i think taste of philly is the best.

  2. I live near a Taste of Philly, and it’s very good. But every time I eat a mushroom and onion philly, I have a sneaking suspicion that the grease is going directly into my heart, and I’m one sandwich closer to cardiac arrest. But it’s so tasty.

The PJ’s Gobbler is a Thanksgiving sandwich. Turkey breast (actually from a turkey, not your sliced, processed variety), stuffing, and cranberry sauce stacked up in a roll with a little mayonnaise. I’ve been craving one, and it may become a meal this very evening, even. I’ll probably take a photo of it to show its’ Thanksgivingy goodness.

I used to like Heidi’s, but I’ve decided that their bread is their only redeeming quality. I feel their meats aren’t exactly up to my stringent standards. Heidi’s is actually on Boycott as well, as a sandwich of theirs resulted in my roommate having some “difficulty” during his attendance at World Series Game 3, if you know what I’m talking about.

  3. this is bullshit. i’m boycotting too.

    fuck the spicy pickle.

    signed,

  4. eh hem… this just so happens to be playing as I read what’s going no here…

    Song: They sold me out

Sold me out for a few shekels and divided up my robes
    They sold me out
It´s the oldest story that´s ever been told
    They sold me out
Didn´t even give it no shred of doubt, no, no
    They sold me out
Didn´t even sit down and try to figure it out
    They just sold me out

For the few shekels more, they didn´t even think twice
For a few shekels more, another minute in the spotlight

My own people did it to me just ´cos they could
    They sold me out
So beware brother it could happen to you
    They sold me out

For the few shekels more, they didn´t even think twice
Just for a few shekels more, another minute of two in the spotlight

My own people did it to me just ´cos they could
    They sold me out
Got to beware brother it just might happen to you

Sold me out for a few shekels and they divided up my robes
    They sold me out
