Picking up the pieces

Yesterday evening I was watching a little TV (yes, so nerdy on a Saturday night). First up, Swingers. A movie I can always watch. I watched from the “Is he brown? Let him in if he’s brown” part through the “What do you drive?” section. One of the tunes highlighted on the amazing soundtrack is Average White Band’s* “Pick Up The Pieces.” I started to surf around and watched various NCAA football games in the evening. 10 minutes later, I switched over to Superman II. General Zod and crew are on their way through America’s backroads wreaking havok and they walk into a diner-type place. The song? You guessed it. Pick Up The Pieces.

* Adam and I drove out East in the Summer of 1999. We got to Saratoga and dropped some shit off at my house, spent the night there. In only a few days we saw Medeski Martin & Wood, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones and Average White Band (with Matt). All 3 shows were amazingly memorable. MMW was at the Orpheum and we had seats in the first row of the balcony (wish I had a digital camera there!), BFF was outside and for free (Bela walked around the crowd with a wireless microphone for like 5 minutes). And AWB was at Hot Tin Roof on Martha’s Vineyard! We took Matt’s boat out there and had some ridiculous dinner somewhere, just getting bombed. We pretty much just fucked around at the bar, getting drunk, pretty much sneaking in and drinking a bunch of beer. Then they played Pick Up the Pieces and everyone wandered in and cheered. These people were really rich people. Tons of old people with fake tits and shit. But really one of my favorite weekends ever.
