One of the things flickr is doing that I’m loving is The Commons. Today they added 850 photos from the Smithsonian. The nice thing about these photos being on flickr is that us Flickrnauts can classify all the images […]

Late-night update: Flickr video has arrived. It is massively underwhelming. Flickr is armed with the financial backing and resources of Yahoo, I have to imagine they’re making Yahoo a bunch of money. I think that they should have done something groundbreaking to reinvent themselves, to show how people really should be presenting video in this […]

Flickr and the Library of Congress have started a unique partnership that allows Flickr users to search for and add tags for photos from the Library of Congress. There are about 3,000 images online now, and I’m sure that number will increase as time goes on. Searching the LoC database now is pretty lame, and […]

Check out PhotoPhlow.com is a newly launched site that integrates well with flickr. It’s derived from the old FlickrLive, a flash-based chat area with live picture sharing (which was in turn derived from a web-based game called Game Neverending). Interestingly, the new version has a lot more search capability built in.
A really interested thing just […]

I’m in charge of the video/photo/blogging/twitter for Flying Dog during the Great American Beer Festival. Here’s the first video I made, with hopefully another to come tonight.

I logged onto flickr just now and saw that their logo looks like it’s been pirated. I wonder what that’s all about. A quick search on the Google site tells me that Wednesday, September 19 is TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!

Go here to take the bogus parental controls off your Flickr account. I just found out that Flickr automatically turns some sort of “Safe Search” on for all users, requiring you to opt-in to things like screenshots, art, illustration, CGI and other non-photographic images, and yes, some nudity.
I personally like to decide for myself what […]

I don’t usually change the titles of the photos I upload to flickr, mainly so that I can easily find the same photo on my computer. Given that there are about 350 million photos on flickr, I wanted to see if I was alone (most likely not, right?). So I searched for all photos with […]

Randomness is great, especially when you have over 437 million photos to pick from. Okay, I think that number is considerably lower, given the (probable) huge number of private photos. Actually, I wonder what percentage of photos on flickr are private? Think there’s a way to look at a few million of them to get […]
