An Open Letter to President Obama

President Obama,

I work for Flying Dog Brewery, a Craft Brewery only 42 miles away from White House (in Frederick, Maryland). With your upcoming happy hour with Professor Gates and Office Crowley, I would have hoped that you would support American-owned Craft Beer companies, and selected an American-owned and American-made Craft Beer. With a large number of high quality Craft Breweries within a few hundred miles of Washington, DC, it would be a great way to help stimulate our American economy and drink some local beer.

We in the industry (breweries and their fans) have a saying, “Think Globally, Drink Locally” and I would have hoped that you would support local American-owned companies, such as Flying Dog Brewery. We’re working hard to produce a great product and help those in our surrounding community.

I’m not asking you to endorse any particular brewery, but if you told people that American Craft Beer was being served, I feel it would promote more than 1700 American businesses that make up 5% of the total American consumption of beer annually.

That being said, if you’re drinking a Light Lager, you should give our Tire Bite Golden Ale a chance. We’d be happy to bring down a bunch of cases, and you’re always welcome to swing by our state-of-the-art brewery in Frederick. I’ve been informed that every president since Theodore Roosevelt has made an official visit to Frederick, and we’d be elated to give you the “special Commander-In-Chief” tour.
