My favorite piece of any iPhone review

The auto-suggest correction system works pretty damn well, considering it hasn’t yet had a chance to learn much about what and how I type. Most impressive touch: it knows the word “fucking”.

Read an in-depth review about it here by John Gruber. A few things I still find troubling abut the iPhone:
1. Bad email support, especially in relation to copying and pasting/quoting.
2. Still no flash – I can get flash support on my Dell Axim – would be nice. It’s a little weird that YouTube uses flash on their website, but encodes a different format for the iPhone – gives you an idea of Apple’s gravity, right?
3. I’d love to be able to use my phone as a storage space for digital photos – I’d even be willing to use iPhotoLite or whatever Apple comes up with for this – I want an easy way to upload my Digital SLR photos to flickr from the road, or from a live show as it happens.

Boredom has set in

I can’t decide which is most boring in the sports events on tonight, a Colorado Rapids game, the NBA draft or the Rockies at Astros. All are in High Def, none are remotely interesting. Only 3 days until NHL Free Agency, though.

Make your own Simpsons character!

Make your own Simpsons character at the Simpsons Movie site. I had to add the lines for glasses myself in Photoshop. And I should have a beard.

Pine Beetle = My Enemy

I’ve never faced one in battle, but the Pine Beetle and I are officially at war.

In this photo, the brown trees are the ones that have been hit by the pine beetle. Infected trees have 0% chance of survival. I went on a little drive along Beaver Creek Road in Grand County, Colorado on Saturday. And then again on Sunday. On Sunday, I took photos. The infestation of this non-native disease is unbelievable, and my worst fears were almost realized today as a forest fire only a couple of miles from where my family has a house in the mountains blazed. Happily, it was relatively small and people were not injured. The YMCA of the Rockies apparently did a nice job of thinning the trees on their land in order to keep potential fires at low risk.

There are also some other nice photos of my fishing expedition with my brother. Definitely look at the last image if you’re just going to look at a few.

Detailed PDF maps of Grand County, Colorado

These maps of Grand County (Winter Park and related areas) are incredibly detailed and are vector based, so you can zoom way in without image degredation. Definitely worth a look.
