Assorted computer-related ramblings

I’m also in Winter Park right now, doing a little bit of telecommuting. I think that Apple laptops, especially the new ones are absolutely fucking fantastic. I’ll probably never get a desktop again. I would also hope that they come out with the goddamn phone/iPod/Newton thing soon, with some real computer functionality. That way I can ditch the Dell x50v that I own (not that it’s not sweet in its’ own sense).

The real sweet shit, actually, is the HP PhotoSmart 8750 that I recently acquired. Accepts Super A3/B paper (13″x19″ to the layperson). 9 colors in 3 cartridges: Blue Photo (3 inks), CMY (3 inks), and Gray Photo (Black + 2 grays). Interestingly, given that there are 3 inks in each cartridge, it makes sense to use all the inks (instead of the standard CMYK inks) because when one ink is out in any given cartridge you have to replace it. Although it was difficult to set up because the Gray Photo ink that came in the box was fucked up, it prints marvelously.

And don’t forget the most important part, which is built-in ethernet support. I love that I completely networked it instantly with all my computers, and I think the next big technology in printers will be built-in wifi/bluetooth support so you can wirelessly print to a wireless printer. I’m a total wifi addict now.
