Yonder Mountain String Band
There’s a thread on the Yonder Mountain Yahoo Group about how many shows people have seen. The max is somewhere in the 100 range (as far as I’ve seen). I thought I had been to a lot of their shows, but it only ended up being like 30 honest-to-god Yonder shows. I guess I’ve seen some of the guys in side projects, adding about 10 or 15 to the list (Larry Keel with Jeff a bunch, Illegitimate Children of Buck Buckner, etc.). When I think about it, it really is a lot of shows, and a little scary that I’d spend so much of my time (and money) seeing these guys. Wild.
I think I just invented a new form of porn.
While shooting some product photos for a sports website I administer, the silver mannequin’s hand (accidentally, mind you) got stuck. In my pants. It’s not exactly my thing, but a friend said that this may in fact be the dawn of a new trend. I’m terming it “mannequerotica” (batteries not included). I’m sure I’m not the first one (you know, since they made 2 fucking movies about it). But my term is really fucking brilliant.
Oh, and I got a new job today. Details to follow.
Everyone thinks I’m an idiot when I make them play “Rock Paper Scissors”
See? It has real world applications. (via Kottke)
I love drawing beards on people in Photoshop.
Here’s a pretty decent tutorial. I’d recommend using a small variety of brushes to achieve some better results.
Just wait for my Franz-Josefs to start popping up on Flickr.

The “I won a contest” hyperlink roundup post
As I previously mentioned, I won a kottke.org contest. I’ve received my prize – a 1955-1978 History of Rock and Roll poster from historyshots.com. I thought it was the best poster they offered. The other posters weren’t designed especially well. Someone should let them know that it’s ok to use some photography in their posters to liven up the design and keep it interesting. I’d be happy to fully redesign their posters for them (at the right price, right?).
Additionally, this has been blogged about in a variety of places, from wellknown to unknown:
News-oriented outlets
Boingboing.net – Some seriously big-time readership.
nationalgeographic.com – I wonder if I’ll make it into the magazine (no chance)!
MSNBC’s Cosmic Log – It’s not network, but it’s damn close.
Canadian Broadcasting Association – Not bad, eh?
Columbus Dispatch – Ohio! (Ohio, Ohio, Ohio)
Blogs
Something in Icelandic! – I have to automatically assume it’s Bjork who wrote this, because nobody else even speaks Icelandic, as far as I know.
A runner-up of the contest – Awesome entry that had a great chance to win.
Andrea Harner – The honorable mention award
TCAL.net
Soreeyes.org – Not entirely sure what “too topical” really means.
Ex-Cathedra – A nice blog entry.
Well, the above links are just a few of you can find about it. Here are a few search terms I used:
